Great goods from you, man. I have remember your stuff previous to and you're simply too wonderful. I actually like what you've received here,
certainly like what you're saying and the best way during which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it sensible. I can not wait to read far more from you. This is actually a great website.

To add to the list of failures: joost.com - a start-up I was working for a couple of years ago... we had a big vision, tremendous funding (aka the Skype founders), excellent developers, a superior technology (millions of online viewers in '05), great press reception and... in the end it still failed!

Not because of bugs or a bad tech but because it was too early in several ways:

- the content industry: not a single station/network wanted to listen to us; "the founders of Napster? oh yah, wanna screw us?"; getting a content deal involved insane amounts of talks, throwing several parties, and even sponsoring the F3000 race... just to get attention in Hollywood...

- the users: they were simply not ready for online TV; yes, we had a great amount of early adopters but they were expecting a click-in-the-browser experience, not downloading and installing some kind of excellent P2P client... the others? they just caught up with RSS and didn't even think about online TV providing several independent channels, on-demand viewing, social components or even bookmarks for your favorite series etc.

- the technology: yes, we had an excellent client supporting Win, Mac, Linux as well as several settop-boxes - but: the early adopters simply didn't want to download & install another piece of software. they expected to simply click on some kind of flash player and be done with it. but this was (and still is not enough) to deliver a true TV-like experience. we have app-stores with in-app purchases now and this is probably the best it get for a while...

And in the end: it was simply too early for online TV!

Now, compare this to the publishing industry: while there's a current hype in regard to e-books, e-readers, tablets and so on - there is still not a single platform to rely on. There's even more fragmentation (think buying an ebook on iOS, then switching your phone to Android), there's simply zero innovation (think social components while reading, think collaborative learning), there is just a single publisher trying to push the borders: O'Reilly.

That's it. Been there, done that.

Now, back to PaperC: this is the platform I envision to really deliver added value for the reader, the author, the editor & even the publisher. Be it social integration, analytics, or distribution and other 'details'...

So stay tuned, there are a lot of things to come in the following weeks for PaperC... and as Katja said: "we’re building something valuable".

Cheers,
Erik

Darn, I've not seen that comment so far, big apology // and big yes: for FB html5t/web just did not work out well, which we take as a hint to do better, still coming from the web side of app. Still we're convinced, that once you pulled the trigger and have PaperC.com put to your home screen, you won't tell it from the real thing, by now e.g. especially the Galaxy Nexus offers the best reading experience our team had so far and the online/offline sync works perfectly well most of the time - still we need to take down functions every now and then which makes the platform in closed beta by now pretty unpredictable.
How do you like the reading experience on PaperC.com so far and do you have suggestions for us to improve? (please wait for the next release, we'll come up with a lot but keep taking our time:
